A special Thank you to Harper Collins UK for sending me this book to review.
One choice can transform you—or it can destroy you. But every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves—and herself—while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love.
Tris's initiation day should have been marked by celebration and victory with her chosen faction; instead, the day ended with unspeakable horrors. War now looms as conflict between the factions and their ideologies grows. And in times of war, sides must be chosen, secrets will emerge, and choices will become even more irrevocable—and even more powerful. Transformed by her own decisions but also by haunting grief and guilt, radical new discoveries, and shifting relationships, Tris must fully embrace her Divergence, even if she does not know what she may lose by doing so.
Review:
Let me say this one things first. If it has been awhile since you've read Divergent, read it again. I got an early copy of Divergent months before it was released so it has been over a year since I've read it. Author Veronica Roth doesn't do any re-capping in Insurgent--an artistic choice--and therefore left me trying to remember all the details. If you have some time I'd suggest picking up Divergent and at least doing a skim through. I wish I had done so.
I also don't really like the UK cover. I don't understand why they messed with a good thing? It is dull compared to the US cover. I'l be purchasing me a US cover to match my Divergent paperback!
Now, on to the review. AMAZING!!! BRILLIANT!!! From page one you are literally swept into a whirlwind of action that does not stop. Tris and Tobias are on the run and they encounter trial after trial. There are twists and turns on every page and you truly do not know what is coming next. Get ready to put your seatbelt on. You're in for a ride.
Divergent focused a lot on the Dauntless. Insurgent really shows you the inner workings of the other factions as well as the Factionless. You start to wonder who is actually the enemy? You're sure you think you know who it is...but do you really? I really enjoyed a deeper look and I want more!
Tris shows a plethora of character development and that is my favorite thing to read about, not necessarily the plot. I care about the characters. I like Tris even more now. I'm so obsessed with the love story between Tris and Tobias. That's all I'll say!!
The ending is WOW!!! So many questions!! This is a massive cliffhanger and I'm not sure I'll be able to wait for the 3rd book!!! So completely evil!!

Yay! I can't wait to read this! I ordered it from Amazon and expect it by the end of the week. Meanwhile, Destined on the Kindle and a few other galleys should keep me going... Have you read the new Kristin Cashore yet? Should we do a joint review?
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to read this! Everyone's saying it's mindblowing. Great review. :)
ReplyDeleteOh no! Not another massive cliffhanger! I think these YA authors want me to have a heartattack before I am 21. I am so glad to hear all the great things you had to say about Insurgent. I already had high expectations that I was pretty sure Veronica Roth would meet but it is always nice to have that confirmation! Great review!
