You've heard of them, and you even know some of their accomplishments. Allow the former presidents of the United States of America to re-introduce themselves to you as fathers, husbands, men of faith, or men lacking hope. In their historical context and without bias, understand the laws they ratified, the political views and strategies that created the current political system, and how they felt about their choices.
Review:
Feeling presidential? If so, then this is the book for you. An easy read, this book takes a format of evaluating each president in only 4 pages. It is packed with historical information and notable quotes of each of the presidents. The book is based on a 2005 survey by Wall Street Journal which asked a group of history, law and political science professors to rate each of the United States presidents from best to worst on a five-point scale. The author of the Next President, Dee J Rammell, takes this survey to the next step and evaluates some of what each president is best known for and what happened during each of their terms. It is an informational book that is perfect for child and adult alike.
I have a degree in history and I found this book a wonderful refresher of the United States presidents. It is sort of a crash course on the presidents and would make a great read for any middle or high school student that is interested in political science.
One of the most interesting facts the book brings to light is the correlation between a great president and the amount of cash they have in the bank. If you are on the fence about who to vote for in the upcoming election, this is a must read! That being said, the book stays neutral the whole way, and evaluates the presidents in a factual way, not with any sort of prejudice or bias.
I loved all the notable quotes in the book, it is worth the buy for that alone! A few of my faves:
"My mother was the most beautiful woman I ever saw. All I am I owe to my mother. I attribute all my success in life to the moral, intellectual, and physical education I received from her." - George Washington
"Give me six hours to chop down a tree, and I will spend the first four sharpening my axe." - Abraham Lincoln
"It is commonsense to take a method and try it. If it fails, admit it frankly and try another. But above all, try something." - Franklin Delano Roosevelt
"Philosophy is common sense with big words." - James Madison, Jr.

************Interview************
We are fortunate to have a mini interview with author Dee J Rammell interviewed by Becca Pierson. Let's get this sweet party started!
I have always been fascinated with the history of the presidents, but found many of my friends felt it too hard to learn about all of them. I felt a consolidated book introducing all of the presidents in a convenient format was needed.
What was your favorite part of the research process behind writing The Next President?
The quotes. I loved finding and compiling the quotes.
What fact about the presidents surprised you the most?
I was surprised to find a distinct correlation between a president's personal wealth and his likely success in office.
If you could meet any of the presidents which one would you like to meet, and why?
I would savor an opportunity to meet with any of them. Each has such a distinct impact on our history. I would find no shortage of things to talk about with any of them.
How do you think The Next President will influence readers to vote in the upcoming election?
Election seasons can often times be emotional and partisan. My hope is that a reader could better identify the leadership qualities necessary in a great president and vote for the person they think will be the best leader after reading about them in my book..
Are you working on another book? If so, tell us about it.
